garland dentures

With an advanced cases of tooth loss, you have gaps in your smile that impact how you eat and speak, and your overall oral health. In order to address more substantial cases of tooth loss, your Garland, TX, dentist may suggest a set of dentures. In today’s blog, we’re explaining how we create a set of full or partial dentures.

The Impact of Losing Your Smile

What happens when we suffer the loss of several of our natural teeth? For many, this means limiting what we can eat. Being forced to rely mainly on soft foods could deny your body proper vitamins and nutrients. For others, trouble speaking could arise and impact social interactions, as could embarrassment with the appearance of the smile. To restore the function, beauty, and health of your smile, you need to address the gaps in your smile!

Crafting a Set of Dentures

The prosthetic should not only fill the exposed gaps in your smile, but also restore balance of your bite to prevent jaw joint strain and complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism. To ensure a comfortable fit, balanced bite, and lifelike appearance, each set is custom-made specifically for your smile. We start by taking detailed impressions and images of your entire smile. In a dental lab, these items will be used to help design and fabricate the finished product. When the prosthetic is ready, you will return to the office so we can make sure it is a proper fit, and explain the care needed to ensure your prosthetic lasts for many years to come!

Full vs. Partial

A full denture replaces every tooth on one or both of your arches. Suction will hold the lower arch denture in place, and you may need a special adhesive for the upper arch. There will be a base made from acrylic that mimics gum tissue, as well as teeth created form durable and lifelike materials. The partial addresses gaps spread out across your smile, for people who don’t need a full, but have too many missing teeth for a bridge. The partial also contains an acrylic base and lifelike teeth, and is held in place with metal clasps that attach to natural teeth.
