If you’ve lost one or more teeth, then the gaps in your smile can lead to serious discomfort, among other complications. However, we can use a custom-made prosthetic, such as a dental bridge, to fill these gaps and improve your smile’s health and appearance.
The Impact of Tooth Loss
The gap in your smile can mean that surrounding teeth can drift from position, leading to crowded or crooked teeth. Over time, misalignment can increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, the pressure an uneven smile places on the jaw joints can lead to the onset of TMJ disorder and bruxism. Finally, gaps in your smile can mean feeing uncomfortable and embarrassed about your smile.
Creating and Placing a Dental Bridge
We can replace between one and three missing teeth in a row using a custom-made dental bridge. We take first remove a small amount of structure from the teeth on either side of the gap in the smile. We then take detailed impressions, which will be used to design and create your custom-made prosthetic. The completed bridge will have the new teeth with crowns on either end. We place the crowns on the prepared teeth, securing the new ones. Your new teeth will look natural and blend with your smile.
Maintaining Your Prosthetic
You should take time each day to brush twice and floss as well. You also need to clean the space between the top of the gums and the bottom of your prosthetic, where food particles can accumulate. Routine care help prevent periodontal disease and infection, which could otherwise threaten your new teeth.
