FAQs About Dental Implants

Dental implants are different than bridges or dentures. In addition to enjoying a 98% success rate, they also offer greater security and can last much longer then other prosthetics. In today’s blog, we’re answering common questions patients often ask about implant dentistry.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

Question: Can anyone qualify for them?

Answer: We will look at a number of factors when assessing a patient, such as jawbone density (there should be enough to support a new tooth root) and the presence of gum disease (the advanced stage of the disease can cause implant failure). We may need to treat underlying health issues before moving forward.

Question: How do you place them?

Answer: We work with an oral surgeon, who will insert the implant portion into the jawbone. Made from titanium, a biocompatible material, the new tooth root will bond with the jawbone over a period of three to four months. The dental implant will then act as a new tooth root, stimulating jawbone growth.

Question: What makes them look natural?

Answer: To complete them, we add an abutment to the implant, which holds a dental crown in place. The dental crown will be custom-made from lifelike materials, ensuring a strong and natural looking tooth replacement that blends with your smile.

Question: How does a person care for them?

Answer: You should care for them as you would natural teeth. You need to brush twice a day for two minutes each session. We also urge patients to floss every night before bed. Finally, be sure you make time every six months for a checkup and cleaning, so we can assess your new tooth and make sure your smile is free of the oral health issue that could threaten your dental implant.
