Last week, we briefly went over many of our cosmetic procedures. Today, we would like to take a closer look at two unique procedures that can reshape and improve the appearance of the teeth. With bonding and contouring, we have the ability to often correct common cosmetic issues in a one visit.
Frequently Asked Questions About Bonding and Contouring
Question: What issues does bonding address?
Answer: We can use the procedure to close any gaps between the teeth, repair chipped teeth, mask permanent discoloration, and help reshape the teeth. We can also use the procedure in a combination with veneers (thin restorations made from porcelain) for a more cost-effective smile makeover.
Question: How does the procedure work?
Answer: We will first need to clean the tooth and remove any decay. We then prepare the composite resin, which can be shaded to match the tooth structure. The material will be applied in several layers and as the tooth cures under a light, we will shape the composite resin. Finally, we polish the tooth to ensure a more natural appearance.
Question: What problems can contouring address?
Answer: We can sue contouring to reshape the teeth by gently removing a small amount of surface structure. As with bonding, the entire procedure only takes a single visit and in fact, we can often perform both procedures in one sitting.
Question: What does the procedure involve?
Answer: We gently buff away a small amount of the outer enamel to remove any pits or grooves in the tooth’s surface. We can also reshape malformed or damaged teeth or dull teeth that are overly pointed or sharp. If you have any questions about bonding or contouring, then please give our office a call. We can use these procedures to help you achieve a more lifelike and beautiful smile.
