Are you less than pleased with your teeth? Do you look at them in the mirror and think something is wrong. It’s nothing major but… Perhaps you need some simple touch-ups to brighten your smile and/or fix some minor cosmetic imperfections. Are there even treatments for that? Definitely. With the variety of cosmetic treatments available today you do not have to spend thousands of dollars on major procedures just to improve your smile. In fact, sometimes less is better.
Tooth Bonding and Contouring
Bonding and contouring treatments are non-invasive, fast, easy, painless, and inexpensive cosmetic treatments that can change your smile without undergoing major, expensive dental procedures.
Bonding: Bonding treatments can be used to fix pitted, chipped, worn, or short teeth; gaps between teeth; craze lines; or teeth that are stained. It is a simple procedure that involves “bonding” a thin layer of composite resin onto a tooth to repair it, lengthen it, or improve the shape or shade.
Contouring: For patients with strong, healthy tooth enamel, contouring is an easy way to reshape teeth that are grooved or pitted, uneven, irregularly shaped, jagged, pointed (vampire teeth), or overlapping. For those patients with thin or weakened enamel veneer treatment is a better option. Contouring consists of:
- X-rays to verify enamel health
- Highlighting areas of the teeth for removal
- Using a sanding instrument to eliminate imperfections and/or reshape tooth
- A final smooth and polish
Dental bonding and contouring are simple, noninvasive procedures that can usually be performed in one visit. While bonding and contouring is not suitable treatment for individuals with root canals, tooth decay, or unhealthy gums, if you have healthy dentition subtle changes can give your teeth a completely new look.
