You can’t go through life worrying about accidents or emergencies but sometimes they do happen. When a dental emergency happens regardless of whether it is day or night, you want relief. An apparently healthy tooth can begin to throb unrelentlessly in the middle of the night. You may lose a filling while eating lunch at work or in a restaurant. Your dentures might break, or maybe a tooth. Don’t panic. At Mai Dentistry we are here for you, even after hours, even when you least expect it.
Advice for Dental Emergencies
If any of these dental emergencies happen to you or a loved one, here is some advice that may mean the difference between saving a tooth or ending up needing an implant.
If a tooth is knocked out: Find and save the tooth and gently try to place it back into the socket. If the proper steps are taken in a suitable amount of time it is possible the tooth can be reattached. If you are not able to replace the tooth into its original socket, place it between cheek and gum, or in a container of milk, and then call us for an appointment ASAP.
Broken or chipped tooth: To treat a chipped or broken tooth, rinse your mouth with a warm salt water solution. If painful, take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
Toothache: A simple toothache can be extremely painful and distracting. Causes of a toothache include a crack or fracture, a pulpal infection, food debris lodged between your tooth and gum, or a large cavity. Again, rinse with warm salt water and take an over-the-counter pain reliever until you see your dentist.
