When unsightly brown and yellow stains form on our teeth, this could be a major source of embarrassment! To remove them, your Garland, TX, dentist may recommend cosmetic dental care. In today’s blog, we’re going to take a close look at two very different professional teeth whitening options, one that you use at home, and another available in our office.
The Factors Behind Your Stained Teeth
Why do we develop stains on our teeth? Well, a number of factors could cause them to appear over time, including consuming foods high in sugar and starch, which promote plaque and make stains more visible. Drinks with tannins and dark pigments, like tea and coffee, could be a factor as well. Other causes include the use of tobacco products or poor oral hygiene, such as improper or infrequent brushing flossing, or lack of routine visits for professional cleanings. When you see us, we will perform an exam to identify the factors behind your discoloration, so we can choose the treatment option that works for your smile!
Whitening in One Visit With Our Team
Our in-office option provides results in one visit! The entire process takes about two hours, and begins with the dentist placing a protective covering on your lips and gums. We then apply the bleaching gel to the teeth, activating it with a light. We repeat this process as necessary to break up stains and brighten smiles, often by several shades. For many, this option is great because it can be done before a special event, such as a job interview.
Stunning Smiles with At-Home Trays and Gel
If you have more severe cases of discoloration, including minor intrinsic discoloration that may not respond to most whitening methods, we may offer our at-home option. You stop by just long enough for us to create a custom-made tray based on detailed impressions taken of your smile. The tray set, along with a bleaching gel, is taken home with you. At home, the trays will be filled with gel and worn for usually between 30 and 45 minutes a day, over the course of a week to ten days. For some, teeth could be brightened by up to eight shades! If you have any questions about how we address discoloration, then contact our team today.
