3 Types Of Dental Bridges

For patients with between one and three missing teeth in a row, we may suggest a custom-made prosthetic that looks natural and prevents the complications of tooth loss. We provide our Garland, TX, patients with three different dental bridge options, including one secured with advanced dental implants. Which one will be right for your smile?

Creating Your Prosthetic

For those with a fixed option, we remove tooth structure from the teeth on either side of your missing ones. For all three options, the next step is to take a series of detailed impressions and measurements of the smile. At a dental lab, we use these images and measurements to design and create the prosthetic from lifelike materials, such as ceramic, ensuring your prosthetic actually blends with the smile seamlessly and provides a comfortable fit. In the interim, you will wear a temporary. When you return to the office, we remove the temporary and place your final one. By filling the gaps in your smile, you avoid the risk of misalignment, TMJ disorder, bruxism, and difficulties eating or speaking that often accompany untreated tooth loss.

Fixed Bridge

A fixed bridge is held in place with dental crowns, which means it cannot be removed. You will need to brush and floss around them as you would natural teeth, and may need to clean the space between the top of the gums and the bottom of the prosthetic, where food particles can accumulate.

Removable Bridge

A removable bridge is usually held in place with metal clasps, which means you take it out at night for cleaning and soaking.

Dental Implant Bridge

As the name implies, we insert dental implants into your smile and attach the prosthetic to them. Not only does this option look natural, but since dental implants act as roots, this one can stay in place for a longer amount of time, lasting decades instead of the 10 to 15 years a traditional fixed or removable option lasts. You will clean them as you would natural teeth, which means regular brushing and flossing each day.  We also use dental implants to secure a custom-made set of dentures, and to also offer solutions for single missing teeth too.
