Question: Will bonding fix my teeth?
Answer: We can often use dental bonding to repair damaged teeth. After removing any decay, we clean the tooth and gently etch the surface. We will shade the composite resin to help the material better blend with your smile. After applying the material, we shape it as the resin cures under a light. Finally, we polish the tooth to ensure a more natural looking appearance, all in the same visit. In addition to fixing chips, we can also close gaps and mask teeth stains.
Question: What happens if a broken tooth isn’t treated?
Answer: Without treatment, bacteria can often bypass the protective level of enamel and reach the inner dentin. There, a cavity forms. Without treatment, the decay will continue to grow and spread until it comes into contact with the inner pulp, which can lead to infection, serious discomfort, and a risk of losing the tooth altogether without treatment.
Question: Should I undergo contouring as well?
Answer: With this procedure, we actually remove tooth structure to address cosmetic issues. We gently buff away small amounts of the outer layer, which can remove any pits or grooves that might have formed in the tooth surface. We can also reshape teeth and dull overly pointed teeth, improving esthetics in one visit.
