Your Fillings Can Look Natural

garland dental fillings

Dental fillings don’t have to just be metal! Instead of only gold and amalgam dental restorations, we can create lifelike and metal-free ones too. In today’s blog, your Garland, TX, dentist talks about how we ensure your fillings look natural and how we can improve the function, health, and beauty of a tooth.

The Dangers of Tooth Decay

Cavities form when harmful oral bacteria come into contact with the dentin, the sensitive structure that makes up most of your tooth. Typically, the enamel protects the dentin, but poor oral hygiene habits could encourage plaque buildup and weaken the outer enamel, and injuries or teeth grinding could damage the enamel. The cavity will grow and spread with time, and could lead to an infected tooth. This worsens discomfort and even increases the risk of tooth loss! When you experience the common warning signs, such as toothaches and sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks, then contact our team right away for a diagnosis.

Dental Fillings

If we discover a cavity, we will move forward with placing a filling. To begin, we will numb the tooth with a local anesthetic, and then remove all decay from it. We then clean it, and in some cases, gently etch the surface. The filling material is metal-free, and can be shaded to blend with the rest of the tooth. We place this composite resin into the decayed area, and then sculpt the tooth as the material cures under a light. The last step is to gently polish the tooth for a brighter appearance. The entire process only takes one visit. To lower your risk of tooth decay, be sure you brush and floss daily, cut back on foods and drinks high in sugar and starch, and see us every six months for a checkup and cleaning visit!

Cosmetic Repair With Bonding

Did you know that we also use the same lifelike filling materials for cosmetic treatments too? In dental bonding placement, we employ composite resin to repair chips and cracks, lengthen worn down teeth, close gaps between teeth, and even mask permanent teeth stains, all in one visit! If you have any questions about how we repair cavities or offer cosmetic transformation, or if you would like to schedule a consultation, then contact our team today to learn more.
