Do you have dental discoloration? If so, then we can help with a professional treatment option. In today’s blog, we’re looking at in-office and at-home teeth whitening. Your Garland, TX, dentist talks about the options we have to either mask teeth stains or remove them completely, so you can obtain a smile that is a new source of confidence!
In-Office Teeth Whitening
We have two options ready to remove teeth stains, but the option we recommend will depend on the causes and severity of your discoloration. If you need fast results and more minor discoloration, we could offer brighter teeth in only one to two hours. Our in-office procedure is simple. You sit down in the chair and we apply a protective coating to your lips and gums. We then add the bleaching gel to your teeth, which we then activate with a special light. The gel then breaks up and removes teeth stains. You leave with a significantly brighter smile!
At-Home Treatment Option
If you have more extensive staining, or if you have concerns about tooth sensitivity, then we have an option that can be used from home. You first visit the office so we can take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile with a special scanning system. We use these to help design and craft a set of plastic trays. We then send these trays home with you, along with a unique bleaching gel. When you return home, you will fill the trays with the gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The trays ensure even results and prevent the saliva from diluting the strength of the gel. Teeth could be eight shades brighter after only one to two weeks! The trays and leftover gel are then available for you to use months down the road for touchups.
Masking Discoloration
But what if your discoloration is severe, or forms beneath the enamel? Known as intrinsic stains, these could be more difficult to remove with teeth whitening. But a brighter smile is still possible! We will simply mask the teeth stains. Dental bonding uses the same composite resin as our tooth-colored fillings, and takes one visit to apply. We also have porcelain veneers, thin restorations that cover the front of the teeth and make instant improvements to shape and color.
