Ready To Truly Whiten Your Teeth?

If you have discoloration, then you may be tempted to try store bought strips or toothpastes. However, your Garland, TX, dentist can offer two professional options to brighten teeth by several shades, with results that could last for months to come. In today’s blog, we’re going to explain the difference between our in-office and at-home teeth whitening options.

The Causes of Stained Teeth

Why do yellow or brown stains start to form on our smiles? These occur due to a number of different factors, and understanding them could help you keep your teeth brighter for longer amounts of time. For example, when you eat or drink sugary items, this leaves behind particles for plaque to consume, creating plaque buildup that makes stains more visible. Lack of daily brushing and flossing and six-month dental cleanings could also lead to discoloration. Beverages with dark pigments or tannins, such as tea, red wine, coffee, and soda could also be a source of trouble. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, this is also a major factor too. Following your whitening visit, consider making positive changes to your daily habits to help keep those teeth shining for much longer.

Whitening In-Office

While a little more expensive, our in-office option provides fast results. People can walk away with teeth up to eight shades brighter in as little as one to two hours. We begin by placing a protective covering on the lips and gums, and then applying a bleaching gel to the teeth. A special light is then used to activate the gel and break up stains. In one visit, you obtain a brighter smile.

An At-Home Treatment Option

We also have an option to brighten smiles by several shades that you can use from home. Not only does this often address more severe stains, but the system also reduces tooth sensitivity. We start with an office visit in which we take detailed impressions of your smile to create a set of plastic trays. We send you home with these trays and bleaching gel. At home, the trays will be filled with gel and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes per day. Optimal results usually take about a week, and of course, you can keep the trays and leftover gel for touch-ups as needed in the coming months.
