Treating Your Smile With A Lifelike Crown

creating a lifelike dental crown

If you have a cavity, then a filling may be prescribed. If you have minor damage, we may restore your smile with cosmetic bonding. But what if your decay or damage is severe, or what if you have lost a tooth? If so, then your Garland, TX, dentist may suggest treatment with our lifelike and durable dental crowns!

When We Prescribe Dental Crowns

A crown is a strong and long-lasting restoration that covers every visible portion of your tooth, from the gum line up. We may use them to address issues both restorative and cosmetic, including chipped, cracked, broken, and worn-down teeth. We also help address misshapen teeth, mask permanent discoloration, and repair advanced cases of tooth decay. For infected teeth receiving a root canal, the final step is often placing a lifelike and custom-made crown. If you’ve lost a tooth, then we may employ these restorations to anchor a dental bridge in place or to restore a single-tooth dental implant.

Lifelike Materials

We have two very different options to offer a lifelike appearance. The first is All-Porcelain. The porcelain material can mimic the translucent appearance of tooth enamel, and can also be shaded to better blend with the rest of your smile. This material also absorbs daily bite forces. We often restore all-porcelain options for the front-facing teeth.

Since the side and rear teeth must endure greater bite forces and pressure on a regular basis, we may suggest a Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal (PFM) option. The metal interior ensures the ability to absorb these more substantial bite forces, and the porcelain outer portions allows your restoration to better match the rest of your smile.

Creating and Placing Your Restoration

To create one, our team starts by administering a local anesthetic and then removing structure from the tooth in question. Next, we take detailed impressions and measurements, which enable us to design your restoration. Once complete, you return so we can check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. Finally, we place the finished product with a powerful bonding agent, which helps secure it for many years to come. To keep them strong, be sure you practice good oral hygiene, which means daily brushing and flossing, routine checkups and cleanings every six months, and a healthier diet. If you have any questions about our crowns, or if you think your smile may benefit from one, then contact our team today.
