Our In-Office Procedure
First, we have an option that removes discoloration in as little as one to two hours from our office. We start by applying protective covering over your lips and gums, and then placing a peroxide bleach onto the surface of your teeth. We then activate the gel with a special light. We repeat the process as your teeth become brightened by several shades! For those in need of quick results, this is often the preferred method.
Our At-Home Treatments
We also have an option designed to address more severe discoloration, and also limit the risks of tooth sensitivity in the process. The procedure starts with an initial office visit. After we take detailed impressions of your teeth, we will create a custom-made set of plastic trays. We send these trays home with you, along with a powerful bleaching gel. Each day, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for between a half hour and 45 minutes. The trays help ensure even results and prevents saliva from diluting the gel’s strengthen. After a week to ten days, you will obtain optimal results. For some, this means teeth brightened by up to eight shades!
What About Permanent Teeth Stains?
Most teeth stains we remove are extrinsic, meaning they form on the surface of our teeth due to foods and drinks we consume or other habits. However, some stains form below the enamel, and could be caused by fluorosis, injury to the face or jaw, or tetracycline. Since these are difficult to remove with traditional whitening options, we may opt to mask them with either dental bonding or porcelain veneers, which also address issues with the shape of your teeth as well!
