Start The Holidays With A Brighter Smile!

Before you know it, the holidays will be here and you and your family will be attending parties and celebrations. If you want your smile to look bright before your next event, then please contact your Garland, TX, dentist. We can help with one of two different teeth whitening treatments.

Two Teeth Whitening Options

We have two very distinct options for removing discoloration your smile. If you need results fast, then we have an in-office option that erases most surface stains in as little as one to two hours. The procedure involves placing a protective covering over your lips and gums and placing a bleaching gel on the teeth. The gel then breaks up stains after we expose it to a special light. If you have more substantial discoloration, we may recommend our home-based option. With this, you come to the office briefly so we can take impressions of your teeth and create a set of custom trays. You take these plastic trays home, along with the bleaching gel. The trays are filed with gel and worn for between 30 and 45 minutes. The trays ensure an even coating and optimal results take about one to two weeks.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

Did you know that when we fail to brush and floss properly, or avoid dental cleanings, this allows plaque buildup to accumulate, not only increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease, but making teeth stains more apparent as well? In addition, drinks with dark pigments, like coffee, red wine, soda, and tea, could lead to discoloration, as does smoking cigarettes or using other tobacco products. Understanding the causes of stains can help you make decisions that improve the brightness of your smile.

Better Holiday Habits

Along with avoiding tobacco products and cutting back on beverages with dark pigments, you should also make time each day to brush your teeth for two minutes, when you wake up and again before bed. You also need to floss before bed. These actions remove the food particles that bacteria will feed on, limiting the severity of plaque buildup in the process. We also suggest making time to see us every six months to have your teeth thoroughly cleaned, which allows us to completely remove all plaque and tartar and polish the teeth as well.
