When you have stained teeth, you may feel embarrassed about your appearance. Instead of going to great lengths to hide your smile, or relying on store bought solutions, why not seek professional cosmetic dentistry? Do you have questions about our teeth whitening options?
Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening Procedures
Question: What does whitening at the office involve?
Answer: We first begin by placing a protective covering over your lips and gums. Next, we apply a powerful peroxide-based bleaching gel onto the teeth. The gel will be activated with a curing light. The stains can be removed and the smile brightened by multiple shades in as little as one to two hours. For quick results, we often recommend the in-office option.
Question: Can you remove stains from home?
Answer: We can! We create a set of custom plastic trays and send them home with the patient, along with a bleaching gel. Each day, the patient fills the trays with the gel and then wears them for about a half hour to 45 minutes. The total course of treatment typically takes about one to two weeks. We can use this option to tackle more serious cases of discoloration.
Question: How do I avoid future discoloration?
Answer: First, be sure you’re brushing twice daily for two minutes each session and flossing before bed every night. Doing so helps limit plaque, a factor in teeth staining. You should also see us for a routine cleaning every six moths and cut back on sugary foods and drinks. Beverages with dark pigments, such as coffee, soda, tea, and red wine can also lead to staining. Finally, remember that you can keep your trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups down the road. If you have any questions about our teeth whitening options, then contact our team today.
