What Kind Of Bridge Do You Need?

Last week, we looked at dental implants for replacing lost teeth. However, they are not the only option for restoring your missing teeth. In fact, for the loss of one or more teeth, you may benefit from a dental bridge. We offer two different options at our office. What kind of bridge of you need?

When Do You Need a Prosthetic?

A prosthetic helps replace missing teeth. If you have lost a tooth, then we may recommend one to prevent complications that often arise as a result of tooth loss. For example, you may develop misalignment, have trouble eating, feel embarrassed about your appearance, or develop loss of jawbone tissue, which can mean an increased risk of further tooth loss. We can use a dental bridge to replace between one and three teeth in a row.

Placing one involves preparing the teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. We remove tooth structure to make room for the crowns. The prosthetic consists of the new teeth, also known as pontics, with crowns attached to each end. We attach the crowns to the prepared teeth, which anchors the new ones in place.

Removable Dental Bridge

As the name implies, this prosthetic can be removed each night for cleaning or soaking. The dentist will provide detailed care instructions.

Fixed Dental Bridge

A fixed option remains in place. You will clean it in a similar manner as you would your natural teeth and only your dentist can remove the prosthetic. Many people prefer this option to the removable alterative. Of course, we will take a number of factors in consideration when deciding which one will best address your smile. If you have any questions about our tooth replacement options, then please contact our office today. Remember, tooth loss can lead to serious complications for both the health and beauty of your smile.
