Single-Visit Cosmetic Transformation
Less is more when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. Patients don’t want the tell-tale look of “having work done.” Dental bonding and contouring can add polish to your smile with striking, yet subtle, results. These procedures are fast, simple, and relatively inexpensive. If a patient’s teeth are healthy but have cosmetic imperfections that detract from the overall symmetry and beauty of their smile, bonding and contouring might be the ideal solution.
Tooth Bonding
Bonding is a dental technique that involves bonding a thin layer of composite resin onto a tooth to repair, protect, or return a tooth to an improved shape or shade.
Composite resin is the same tooth-colored material that’s used for filling cavities. Bonding is used to address other dental imperfections as well, such as:
- Chipped or short teeth
- Extensive stains that do not respond to teeth whitening treatments
- Gapped teeth
When we bond, we apply resin to the teeth, then use a special light to cure (harden) it. Then we employ sculpting and polishing instruments to shape it to match your natural surrounding teeth. Dental bonding is a simple, noninvasive procedure usually performed in one visit.
Tooth Contouring
Tooth contouring reshapes imperfect teeth that are:
- Grooved or pitted
- Uneven in length
- Overlapping
- Jagged
- Pointy or “fang-like”
Before proceeding with the tooth contouring process, Dr. Mai will take x-rays to determine the thickness of your tooth enamel. If Dr. Mai feels that your tooth enamel is not sound enough for the procedure, we may suggest another solution.
Gum Contouring
Gums that cover most of your teeth can make them look too small. Uneven gums can actually make straight teeth appear crooked and asymmetrical. If you are unhappy with gums that rest too low or too unevenly on your teeth, you may be a candidate for gum contouring. This cosmetic procedure is also called soft tissue sculpting. Gum contouring surgery is performed in our office and, with the use of our diode laser, patients experience little to no discomfort or bleeding, and dramatically reduced recovery times.
Cosmetic dentistry is no longer exhausting or complicated. Bonding and contouring easily transform your smile for a new look, and a new beginning.
