Custom Dental Restoration
Dental crowns are exactly what they sound like: synthetic teeth used to cap natural teeth that have sustained damage. Crowns restore the function and appearance of damaged teeth while maintaining proper spacing and occlusion (bite). Crowns also act as auxiliary appliances in other dental procedures, such as holding dental bridges in place, masking severely stained teeth that are not treatable with teeth whitening systems, and serving as dental implant caps.
At Mai Dentistry, crowns can be installed in two visits. The tooth is first reshaped, imprinted, and sealed with a temporary crown. We place the permanent crown on the tooth during the second visit, adhere it, and customize it to the patient’s bite. Then you have a restored tooth that looks and feels close to the real thing.
Metal Crowns
Metal crowns, sometimes called gold crowns, are unbeatable for their durability, lasting a lifetime with proper care. They are made of minerals such as gold, platinum, palladium, silver, copper, tin and more. Because the metal is so conspicuous, however, dentists prefer to place these crowns in the back of the mouth.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) Crowns
PFM crowns have a metal core and porcelain exterior. The metal and porcelain unite for durability and esthetics.
All-porcelain Crowns
Ceramic crowns are highly regarded for their translucence and ability to blend in with surrounding teeth. Thus, they are ideal for repairing front teeth. Ceramic crowns are also hypoallergenic and are not sensitive to hot and cold food.
