Which Type Of Denture Does Your Smile Need?

mai-types-of-denturesMissing multiple teeth can lead to problems eating or being understood when speaking. You can also feel embarrassed and develop serious complications, such as misalignment or facial collapse due to loss of jawbone density. To combat tooth loss, we can recommend a number of different prosthetics. Which type of denture does your smile need?

Partial Denture

When tooth loss is severe, but not total, then we may suggest a partial. This option can address multiple missing teeth, even if they are spread out across an arch. The prosthetic contains the replacement teeth, along with an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissue. There will also be metal clasps that attach the natural teeth, anchoring new ones firmly in place. The prosthetic is removable and we will provide detailed cleaning instructions. You can expect the partial to last between 5 and 10 years before requiring adjustment or replacement as the mouth changes shape.

Full Denture

Using this option, we replace all of the teeth on one or both arches. The prosthetic includes a full row of custom-made teeth and a base that mimics the look of natural gum tissue. The full is held in place with suction. You may also use an adhesive agent to help secure the prosthetic. As with a partial, this option lasts between 5 and 10 years before we may need to replace or adjust it.

Implant Denture

Instead of using suction or metal clasps, we insert implants into the jawbone. After the area heals, we then attach a prosthetic, which holds the full or partial firmly in place. Since implants stimulate jawbone growth, the mouth won’t change shape and the new teeth have the potential to last a lifetime.
