Do You Have FAQs About Dental Bridges?

mai-bridgeWhen a patient comes to us with one or more missing teeth we will recommend a prosthetic, such as a dental bridge. Replacing a missing tooth can improve the health and appearance of the smile. Do you have questions about dental bridges? Do they look natural? Who qualifies for them?

Frequently Asked Questions About Bridges

Question: How do they work?

Answer: A bridge replaces between one and three missing teeth (provided they are in a row). The prosthetic consists of the replacement teeth with crowns on each side.

Question: What does placement involve?

Answer: First, the doctor will prepare the natural teeth on either side of the exposed gap in your smile. Preparation involves removing tooth structure to make room for the crowns. She will then take detailed impressions, which will be used by a dental lab to fabricate the prosthetic. Once complete, the crowns will be placed onto the prepared teeth, anchoring the new ones firmly in place.

Question: How long do they last?

Answer: A number of factors can impact the longevity of your new teeth, but on average they last between 10 and 15 years, requiring replacement or adjustment as the mouth changes shape.

Question: Do they look natural?

Answer: Yes. Each one is custom-made by experts in a dental lab using the detailed images and impressions gathered of your smile. Natural looking materials are used in the process as well. The new teeth should blend seamlessly with your smile. In fact, no one should be able to tell you have a prosthetic at all. If you have any questions about our dental bridges, or if you would like to discuss any of our other tooth replacement options (such as full and partial dentures or dental implants) then please contact our office today.
