The Fixed Bridge Option

fixedbridgeIt is mostly as you age that you begin having trouble with your teeth, especially if you’ve practiced good oral hygiene and visited your dentist regularly over the years. Your teeth can become weaker as you age especially if they have large fillings. They may break or crack and rather than have them fixed you may choose to have them removed. There are other reasons you may have lost a tooth. If you’re looking for a permanent way to replace a tooth you may be interested in the fixed bridge option.

Tooth Replacement

When it comes to replacing a tooth you have several options. The option you choose may depend on the location of the tooth that needs replacing, the health of the adjacent teeth, the cost, and your medical and dental health history. Some choices include a dental implant, a removable partial denture, or a fixed bridge. If you are looking for a long-term permanent fix, then an implant or fixed bridge would be the obvious options.

Fixed Bridge

What is a fixed bridge? A fixed bridge is an easy and minimally invasive procedure equal to that of placing a dental crown (well actually two). It is a dental prosthetic that consists of a crown on each outside end, with a fake tooth or teeth in-between. The teeth on each side of the missing tooth are scaled back in order to accommodate the crowns when the crowns are permanently cemented. A fixed bridge is less costly and much less invasive than a dental implant. However, while a fixed bridge can last up to 15 years or longer, dental implants can last a lifetime.
